MacBook Distribution Signup

Those undergraduate students, that have opted to receive a MacBook prior to the summer break, can now schedule a time to upgrade. Please read this message carefully for complete upgrade instructions.

The upgrade will take place in the Student Center throughout finals week. Reserve an upgrade time-slot at the bottom of this page. The signup times are limited to a certain number of people, so signup as soon as you can to guarantee the time you want.

Things you must know:

  • You will be required to turn in the Dell laptop and power adapter at the time of the upgrade.
  • You may be responsible for any damage to the Dell laptop and fees may be assessed per the Mobile Computing Student License Agreement.
  • Any unpaid portion of the upgrade fee is due prior to receiving the upgrade.
  • We recommend that you do not upgrade until all finals and end-of-term assignments are completed. This will help ensure that you do not experience technical problems with Blackboard tests and other course work through the end of the term.
  • There will be an automated process to move data from the Dell laptop to the MacBook. All files within MyDocuments will be copied to the new system.
    • To help in this automatic transfer process you should move all data files into "My Documents", music files to "My Music", and photos to "My Pictures"
    • "My Favorites", "Desktop", and the Outlook PST file, will also be copied to the new system.
  • The amount of time required for the upgrade will depend on the amount of data that you will need to move to the new system. Please allow 1-2 hours for the entire process. If you will need to move more than 20GB of data the time required could be longer than 2 hours.
  • If you do not need to transfer data between systems the process, we estimated that the upgrade process will take approximately 30 minutes.

Please note: The University IT Services staff will provide basic tools and support resources to aid in the data backup/transfer process. The University does not guarantee or warrant this process and assumes no responsibility for any direct or incidental costs related to the loss of data.
